At General Motors Pontiac East Assembly, Chemico worked with the booth cleaning personnel to radically change their booth cleaning process. After several competitive trials, Chemico was able to develop a booth coating that exceeded the performance requirements of the plant. Instead of using a high VOC Paint Stripper to clean the booths on a daily basis, the plant applies our water- Based barrier coating once every 2 weeks. Consequently, the plant reduced their VOC emissions from this operation by 75%. Their material costs were reduced 50-60% in addition to significant manpower and hazardous waste savings. In addition, this GM plant asked us to assist them with their #1 dirt-in-Paint defect: the soot and ash residue introduced into their system via their largest Paint production aid, a door stop tool. Since we began cleaning their tools with our proprietary process, tool cleaning has not been a dirt-related Paint issue at that plant. In addition, at Pontiac East, we introduced floor mats, which have reduced Paint tracking and consequently reduced the floor cleaning frequency rate. We expect this to save the plant an additional 5-10 tons of VOC emissions per year. At GM Lake Orion Assembly, we implemented a Paint production tool-cleaning program, which reduced Paint chips from the #1 dirt in Paint defect to #6 dirt in Paint defect. Also for Lake Orion, we introduced a low VOC booth Cleaner, which reduced VOC emissions 50%. At GM Wentzville Assembly, Missouri, we introduced Water Based, zero VOC booth coatings and low VOC Paint Cleaners. Since 1996, our products have helped reduce total Paint shop & plant VOC emissions by 92%. Along with reduced VOC’s, our products have contributed to plant product consumption being reduced. At DaimlerChrysler Warren Truck 1999, introduced tool-cleaning technology that reduced the paint chips from paint tools from the #1 dirt source to # 7 of 7. Per Dodge Truck Dirt specialist, the Chemico program eliminated the tool dirt concerns, which increased their quality through put yield with minimal cost impact. In March 2000 Introduced reduced VOC, water based cleaner to GM Flint Truck & Bus Assembly, which reduced paint shop maintenance VOC emissions 7000 lbs per year.
